Facing the World

…when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself…the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.

Luke 12:11-12

The Christian is to acknowledge Christ, his Savior and Lord, in all he/she does. We have looked at the Christian’s acknowledgment in public and the fate of those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Today, we learn in Christ’s teaching that, when we are challenged to give an account of our faith, we are to know that our response will be given to us at the time we need it most. The Christian’s lifestyle is witness to one’s beliefs. There is no need of preparing, in advance, some acknowledgment of our faith. There will be times when hostile challenges are to be met, just as Stephen was challenged by the religious leaders of his day. Now, in our country, so far, we do not face persecution like that of Stephen. But, in other parts of this world, there are Christians who are dying for their faith in Christ and all the other persecutions we read about in the Holy Scriptures. Jesus was plain regarding this world’s persecution of the saints. Christians must expect persecution until our Savior and Lord, Jesus, returns in power and glory to rule and reign, finally defeating Satan, his demons, and the world system Satan rules now. Let all Christians pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who face daily, harsh living conditions, imprisonments, physical suffering, even, death, for the faith that will bring us all life eternal, abundant, free from sin, and in the presence of our King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus!
