For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
2 Peter 1:16-21
Peter tells the Christians, to whom he is writing, about the Apostles’ eyewitness of Jesus Christ in His Risen Body. Many false teachers had arisen to discredit Christianity, one of which had declared that Jesus had not been resurrected but had only swooned, not dying, and revived days later. Peter states that he and other Apostles had actually heard God’s voice declaring Jesus to be His “Son in Whom He was well pleased.” Peter exhorts the Christians that they “…will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts…” For them, and us today, to do so is to confirm in our hearts the prophetic Word of God. Then, Peter admonishes any who would claim their personal interpretation of prophetic Scripture is the only interpretation there is by saying that “no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.” That is, God’s Holy Scriptures will interpret other Scriptures so that God’s Word can never be abused or misunderstood by man. Yet, throughout the eons, men have tried to claim their own interpretations were the only one to believe! The writers of God’s Holy Words to us “were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” Many today seek for some sign from God of His reality or some miracle but, God has spoken to all people through His Word, the Holy Bible, in these last days. If you want to hear God speak to you, pick up the Holy Bible, read it aloud and you will hear God’s Word to you! Otherwise, read your Bible to yourself and listen as God speaks to your spirit within.
