Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour…While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
John 12:27:36
After Jesus spoke with the Greeks who had asked to “see Jesus,” He says that His “soul is troubled” and He rhetorically says, should I ask, “Father, save Me from this hour.” Jesus immediately goes on to say that His purpose in coming to this world is for this hour that is approaching rapidly. And, He adds that the Father’s Name be glorified. When Jesus had said these words, a voice, from Heaven, saying, “I have glorified it. And, I will glorify it again.” Of the crowd around Jesus when this occurred, some said it had thundered, while others said that an angel had spoken to Jesus. Jesus tells the crowd that the voice they heard was for their sake, not for Him. Jesus goes on to say that the events about to take place will bring judgment to this world and its leader of the world’s systems, Satan. Jesus continues to cryptically say what manner of death He would suffer and, then, to be questioned by the crowd as to why the Messiah would have to die. Jesus answers indirectly by telling the crowd they have the Light for a little while longer and to believe in the Light to become sons of Light. Christians, our Lord Jesus defeated Satan and his demons upon the cross of Calvary. Jesus defeated death by rising from the tomb where His body was laid. This world’s usurper of the power of the air was indeed beaten and the keys to death and hell were taken from him and are now in the hands of Jesus, King of kings and Lord of lords. To believe otherwise is to have unbelief. The final “clean up” will occur when our Messiah returns in Power and Glory to judge the world, its unbelieving humans, and Satan, with his demons, will be consigned to the eternal fires of hell. Until that time, Satan still thinks he is in charge. Our parents may have told us about the Japanese soldiers who did not hear that the war was over, with their defeat, and some soldiers continued to fight, guerilla style, on the islands that had little or no communication lines. Satan is a defeated foe! He knows it! But, until he is physically removed from this world, he continues to control it. Christians, let us pray for the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. He, alone, is our Defender and Avenger!
