Casting Demons

…[Jesus] was casting out a demon…some…said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebub…

Luke 11:14-15

In this incident, Jesus is casting out a demon that had entered a man, making him mute. As He commanded the demon to come out of the man, the people who saw it marveled. But, as usual, the religious authorities, who were among the people trying to catch Jesus in anything to accuse Him of any offense against Jewish religious laws or Roman rule, said Jesus cast out the demon by Beelzebub, the devil. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, told these “snakes” that a kingdom divided against itself always falls, meaning that if Satan exorcises his own demons from humans, Satan is defeating himself. Then, Jesus, using logic, tells them that, if He casts out demons by the power of God, then, the kingdom of God is among them and they do not acknowledge it. Jesus concludes His message by telling the people, including the religious leaders among them, that those who are not with you are against you, speaking of Himself. There is no middle ground for humanity to stand. Either humans worship and call upon the name of Christ or humans are totally against Christ. Humanity’s first parents, Adam and Eve, sinned against God’s law and brought upon their descendants a condition of total depravity. Sin is a part of the nature of every human and there no human attribute that is not affected by sin. The human mind, heart, will, and soul are at enmity with God, darkened by sin’s effect, and not willing, or wanting, to seek God. That is why Jesus came to “seek the lost sheep.” Salvation is a work of God alone! He has sent His only Son, whose life of sinless ministry and death of atonement, are to be believed by faith alone and all who believe are saved eternally. If you have never heard that message of the gospel, you are at enmity with God. Repent and turn to Jesus as your Savior and Lord!
