False Prophets

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you…Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones…

2 Peter 2

Peter uses an entire “chapter” of this letter to write about false teachers that had arisen in his day and will arise throughout church history. These false teachers will teach “destructive heresies” and “even deny Christ” as they work destruction among Christians weak enough in faith to follow such evil people. These teachers will actually blaspheme God as their teachings spread death and destruction in the church. Peter writes, “…if God did not spare angels when they sinned;” ”…if He did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah;” “…if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction,” “then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly…” Though spirit beings are more powerful than human beings, Christians should not fear the evil spirit beings that beset them in this life. These spirit beings will be “destroyed” in everlasting hell, along with unbelievers. These evil spirit beings “promise” freedom from God to unbelievers but, these spirit beings are, themselves slaves to their own corruption. So, how can a Christian know the false teacher? God has provided His Book, the Holy Bible, as the one true resource for each Christian to be educated (sanctified) and learn what is right in God’s eye and what is wrong. Christian, have you read the Holy Bible recently? It can bring you salvation!
