And let the young woman who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. This pleased the king, and he did so.
Esther 2
After Ahasuerus sobered from his drunken party, he regretted his action to banish his queen, Vashti. So, some advisors to the king suggested that the king have beautiful women from around his kingdom be brought to him for his selection for a new queen. At this point, we are introduced to a Jew, Mordecai, a Benjaminite who was of the house of Kish, king Saul’s father. Mordecai was caring for a cousin, Hadassah, whose parents were no longer alive. She was beautiful in many ways and she was selected to be one of the women to be considered for the open position of queen to Ahasuerus. Mordecai warned Hadassah to not reveal her lineage to anyone in the palace for fear of hatred of the Jews. So, Hadassah, renamed Esther, is among other women in the harem to be considered for the king. Esther’s beauty captivates the eunuch of the harem and, after a year of mandatory beauty treatments, Esther goes into king Ahasuerus’ chamber. Ahasuerus loved Esther more than all the other women who had been presented to him. So, Esther became the queen to Ahasuerus. Now, Mordecai sat “at the king’s gate,” so he could keep an eye on Esther, and overheard an angry discussion of two eunuchs of the king wanting to kill the king. Mordecai told Esther who told the king what Mordecai had heard. Upon investigation, the plot was discovered, the culprits were hanged and, Mordecai was credited with his actions in the book of the chronicles of the king. Christians, we live in this world and it is under the control of Almighty God. All people are subject to God’s Will and, whether they believe in this God or not, they are used by God to accomplish His Will in this world. Satan thinks he is in control and, in certain ways, he is but, the end is known from the beginning by God alone for Satan is not omniscient. Only God directs the affairs of all humans to achieve His Will. Through good and bad, God will work all things for good to those who love and obey Him!
