Therefore, let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
Romans 14
Paul gives several examples of Christians who are at various stages of their sanctification. Brothers and sisters in Christ are all “growing” in their faith and knowledge of the Word of God. As our brothers and sisters, fellow Christians are to treat each other with love, respecting each one’s level of sanctification and not trying to argue or mandate doctrines of our faith that some are not familiar with. Berating and belittling are not methods for teaching, either. It usually is obvious seeing a Christian, young in his/her faith, who may not understand the freedoms more mature Christians know are theirs. Also, more mature Christians should know that new, “younger” Christians are still learning what it is like to be a Christian. Such mature Christians should be kind and loving when dealing with those who are newly converted because we will have to give an account of our actions toward our brothers and sisters in Christ. Paul writes, “…let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.” Paul ends this section with, “The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God…For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” Christian, how are you getting along with your fellow Christians?
