God’s Righteous Judgment

Therefore, you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges.

Romans 2

Paul continues his teaching that unregenerate humans are under the Righteous Judgment of God. Remember that chapter and verse labels were not applied to the original writings. So, Paul is simply writing on the same topic chapter 1 ended with. Paul’s point in these verses is that anyone who judges another human is subject to God’s Judgment for humans are not to judge one another outside what the Ten Commandments call for. Judgment is God’s purview and we sin when we judge another. People who think they can keep the law and get into Heaven must understand that God’s standard for the “law keeper” is perfection. One sinful thought causes the sinner to fall short of God’s standard and the sinner will be condemned to hell. The people who are condemned to hell will be willing to give everything they had just to have been judged according to one less sin they committed. Paul states that “God shows no partiality.” Paul’s writings here deal with those who think they can keep the law themselves and gain entry into Heaven. Paul is setting the stage for the works of God’s Only Begotten Son to become the substitute for believers to receive the righteousness of Christ through His sinless earthly life and have believers’ sins forgiven by the atoning death of Christ on the cross. God loves His creatures and His creation enough that He made the way for humanity to enter God’s Heaven. It is only by the works of Jesus of Nazareth, God Incarnate, that man will be allowed into eternity with God. Source: S C Ball August 23, 2023
