Then he called two of the centurions and said…
Acts 23:23-35
Continuing the story of Paul’s arrest in Jerusalem and the plot to kill him by the Jews, the tribune, aware of the murder plot, sends Paul to Caesarea where the governor, Felix, was staying. The tribune’s action, in the wee hours of the morning, averted Paul’s possible killing and certainly saved some Roman soldiers a lot of fighting and possible injuries. The tribune also wrote a letter to Felix regarding Paul and what had been his crimes, if any. The tribune also wrote that the Jews only charged Paul with not following religious laws they practiced and Paul was being sent to Felix to avoid the Jewish murder plot and force the religious leaders to travel to Caesarea to plead their case before Felix. So, the soldiers did as commanded, leaving Paul in custody at Antipatris where Felix briefly questioned Paul to find out where he was from and decide what he, Felix, would do with this “prisoner.” The governor told Paul he would grant a hearing when the religious leaders arrived from Jerusalem. In the meantime, Paul was held in the former headquarters of Herod. God takes care of His children and not one is harmed without God’s knowledge. Paul has been saved from a death plot and, now, remains in custody, protected by the Roman government. God not only uses pagans to punish His chosen ones, He uses pagan people to protect His children from those who claim to be religious leaders of God. Many Christians are not prepared, spiritually, for the “false prophet” within the church. Many are being lead down the broad path to destruction under the guise of false doctrines being preached and taught by wolves in sheep’s clothing. Only by staying in the Scriptures can Christians be alert to the enemy of God, Satan and the demons who follow him. Source: S C Ball August 8, 2023
