Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you…But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings…
1 Peter 4:12-19
Christians are not to be surprised when suffering and fiery trials come upon them. Christ taught that, “If they (persecutors) hated Me, they will hate you because you believe in Me.” Peter writes that the Christian should rejoice in his/her suffering “that you may also rejoice and be glad when His Glory is revealed.” Blessed is the one upon whom God the Holy Spirit rests and is insulted for your faith which brings eternal life to all who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ! Peter admonishes Christians to NOT suffer as one who commits sins against the Law of God but, Christians are not to be ashamed of Christ but, to glorify God in our suffering. Peter writes that God’s judgment is coming and He will start with His own people first for, if Christians are suffering in these “last days” since Christ came to earth, what will be the sufferings of those who do NOT believe in Jesus Christ! The unsaid answer here is hell is the destination for all unbelievers, a place of eternal judgment for all who reject the salvation in Jesus Christ. We Christians are to accept suffering for our faith, committing our very souls to our “faithful Creator while doing good.” May all Christians, today, remember our brothers and sisters in Christ who put their lives on the line daily to spread the good news of the gospel to all in hopes of God saving a few whom He has chosen to be His children.
