Salvation to All

…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10

Paul begins this chapter by saying that he is concerned for his fellow Israelites because they have a zeal for God but they do not know the Scriptures that outline godliness through righteousness found only in the Messiah and they refuse to submit because they believed Jesus was not the Messiah. Paul spends most of this chapter writing “The Message of Salvation to All.” As we read Paul’s message, he is saying that all those who “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Paul is not advocating universal salvation which says all humans will be saved regardless of their belief in God. All who “confess,” publicly and, “believe,” in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, will be saved. Paul writes that God’s salvation makes NO distinction between Jew and Greek, which would include all humanity in Paul’s day. Paul outlines how this will all happen. Belief comes from the hearing of the Word. Hearing comes through the preaching of the Word. And, preachers must be sent out, just as Paul was, to proclaim the gospel to all people. But, Israel never fulfilled God’s command to them to be a priesthood for all nations of the world. So, now, the gospel will be proclaimed by Jew and Gentile to all people. Some will hear and be saved. Others will hear and not believe. We see that in the scenes of Scripture, both Old and New Testaments. We even read that some Jews “preached out of jealousy” and tried to dilute the message of the cross. Have you heard the gospel? If so, you have made one of only two choices, believed into the Lord Jesus Christ or did NOT believe. There is no middle ground or fence sitting. Hear the gospel while there is still time and respond in faith to its message for God’s patience will not abide forever. He has already established a day and a Man, Jesus Christ, to judge all people who have rejected Him and to send them into the fires of hell for eternity.
