“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.
Romans 3
Now, Paul turns to God’s Righteousness. First, Paul writes of the Jew having some advantage. Paul says the Jews were entrusted with God’s oracles, God’s Holy Word. But, then, Paul says the Jews were not faithful to keep God’s Holy Word. But, the Jews’ lack of faithfulness does not mean God was unfaithful. The immutable God cannot be faithless. He is faithful to His Word even though humans are faithless. Next, Paul writes of the religious Jews of his day and their piety. These Jewish leaders had made the law into a massive list of do’s and don’ts and had abandoned the spirit of the Covenant God had given them. They believed they were acting within the law and could earn their way into Heaven. Paul states that no human is righteous and no one seeks God. This was established in Genesis 3 after Adam and Eve sinned and, when God came, as He did every day, in the cool of the evening, and Adam and Eve were “hiding” from God because they were afraid and they were naked. Humans, ever since, have been “hiding” and running from God because God is Holy and we are not. Lastly, Paul gets to the “how” of obtaining righteousness, by faith. All humans, no exceptions, have sinned, fallen short of God’s standard, and can only be justified before Holy God through faith in His Son, Jesus. Paul ends this section by saying that God is the Jews and the Gentiles. If you are a Christian, Paul lays out that salvation is for all people who believe. Praise God for His faithfulness in salvation to His children, whether Jew or Gentile! Source: S C Ball August 24, 2023
