Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind…redeem me, and be gracious to me. My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.
Psalm 26
In this psalm of David, we learn of David’s faith in the Lord, his life of integrity and, his hope in the Lord. For the Christian today, David’s psalm is a treasure trove of praise to God, David’s words to live by and, David’s assurance of his being redeemed. We should not understand David’s words to be braggadocios. Though David sinned during his life, some very serious sins, he was saved by the same Grace of God that saves all who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. David sets for the Christian a lifestyle of living for God knowing that he will sometimes fail his Lord because he is a man conceived and born in sin because all humans are conceived and born in sin. Though David wrote of his “Son” being the Son of God, David’s Son was also his Lord! You may remember that Jesus posed that question to the religious leaders who could not answer Jesus’ question because they would have to admit to Jesus’ deity in their answer. David asks God to “Prove me…and try me…” God shows us our faith, or lack thereof, through the trials and tribulations we face in this life. This is part of our sanctification all Christians experience from the time of regeneration until we enter Heaven. Let all Christians proclaim the salvation of the Lord and all His Goodness and Love that keeps until that day we see our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!
