[Jesus said]…do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on…it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.
Luke 12:22-34
Jesus spoke to His Disciples these things to give them assurance and comfort about their future. Jesus spoke of all the needs humans, in this life, have. God is aware of our needs, and our wants, for life here on earth and, He has promised to meet those needs, even, our wants sometimes. Jesus, then, gives the examples of fauna and flora that neither reap nor sow, neither store or preserve their food and, yet, God cares for them. These creatures have not a care for their needs because Almighty God takes care of them. Jesus compared God’s care for these creatures to His care for humanity and asserts that God places much more value upon humanity than He does for these creatures. Jesus deals with worry, a human trait that seems to infect all humanity. Jesus questions whether human anxiety can add anything to each human’s life span, answering “no” and, at the same time, saying, if one cannot change a thing by anxiety, why should one be anxious at all. Jesus declares God’s ability to care for the least of His human creatures’ needs and, then, says that the world seeks such things. Jesus moves to challenge His Disciples and, us today, to seek God’s Kingdom and, all other things will be given to the one who seeks God. Jesus’ teaching here is not a license for any human to do nothing toward his needs and wants, believing God will supply all things. God expects human to do all possible things to meets one’s needs and wants. And, in so doing, God will work through the person’s efforts to supply one’s needs and sometimes, his desires. Christians cannot be lazy in their Christian lifestyle. Christians must be willing and able to meet others needs as they are presented to the Christian. The sick, afflicted, poor, widowed, orphans, prisoners and, others are all around us. God uses His chosen ones to meet the needs of such people who cannot meet their own needs unaided.
