False Prophets

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits…A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit…Thus you will recognize them by their fruits…Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?” And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.”

Matthew 7:15-23

Jesus, still preaching His Sermon on the Mount, moves to fruit bearing of the Christian and His “knowing” those who enter Heaven. Fruit bearing tells another person what kind of vegetation is producing the fruit. It is the same with the Christian. Those who are saved by faith alone in Christ alone will produce the “fruits of the Holy Spirit” dwelling in them, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and, self-control. Christians, in name only, not saved but, claiming salvation, are only acting the part to either, gain some earthly benefit or, deceive true Christians into believing a lie of the devil. False teachers have been around since the Garden of Eden debacle and will remain a bane until Christ returns in Power and Glory. So, Christians need to know the proper teaching of God’s Holy Word through reading and studying. Only then, will false teaching be clearly seen and understood. Just as a farmer/botanist knows plants and trees, so, the Christian can discern true teaching and teachers. Christians, do not accept everything you see and/or hear as “gospel truth.” Be like the Bereans of Paul’s day, examining the Scriptures to determine the truth of Paul’s preaching and teaching. God’s Word prophesies of a future time when apostasy will cause many to fall from their faith in Jesus Christ. Persevere in the faith preached until Jesus’ return or, at your entry into Heaven, Jesus will tell many, seeking Heaven’s entrance, that He “never knew them.” Jesus is referring to the knowing of someone in the salvation only God gives to the sinner. Certainly, Jesus knows about all humans. But, only those saved by the shed blood of Christ and clothed in the perfect righteousness of Jesus’ sinless earthly life are to be granted entrance into Heaven. Friend, are you counted among the Redeemed?
